1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what data Digital Systems ("BabelPage", "we") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We designed BabelPage so your documents stay yours: they are processed to provide the Service and are not sold or used to train third-party models.
2. Data we collect
Account data. Your email, password hash, display name, and plan status, so we can create and secure your account.
Your Content. The pages you scan or upload, the text we extract via OCR, and the translations we generate. This content is stored so you can access, organize, and export it.
Usage data. How you use the Service — scans and translations per cycle, feature usage, device and app version, and diagnostic logs — to operate, secure, and improve the product.
Payment data. When you subscribe or buy credits, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and processes your payment details. We do not store full card numbers on our servers; we retain a customer reference and billing status.
3. How we use your data
We use your data to: provide and maintain the Service (OCR, translation, export); authenticate and secure your account; process payments; provide support; send service and, where permitted, product communications; and comply with legal obligations. We rely on the legal bases of contract performance, legitimate interests, consent (where required), and legal obligation.
4. Processors and subprocessors
We share data with the following providers strictly to operate the Service. Each processes only what is needed for its function.
| Provider | Purpose | Data handled |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud Platform | Hosting, storage, infrastructure | Account data, Your Content, usage data |
| Google Cloud Vision | Optical character recognition (OCR) | Page images to extract text |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Translation and quality refinement | Extracted page text for translation |
| Google (Gemini) | Supplementary AI processing | Extracted page text, where used |
| Stripe | Payments and subscription billing | Billing details, payment status |
| Resend | Transactional and account email | Email address, message content |
| Sentry | Error monitoring and diagnostics | Technical logs, limited usage data |
We put appropriate data-processing terms in place with our processors. A Data Processing Addendum (DPA) is available on request at the contact below — [ATTACH / LINK DPA TEMPLATE].
5. Data retention
We keep account data for as long as your account is active. Your Content is kept until you delete it or your account is closed; free-tier scan history may be trimmed after approximately [RETENTION PERIOD]. After account closure we delete or anonymize your data within [DELETION WINDOW], except where we must retain it to meet legal or accounting obligations.
6. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage much of this directly in the app, or contact us to exercise your rights. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you of a material breach as required by law.
8. International transfers
BabelPage is operated by Digital Systems from the Republic of Zambia. Your data is processed in the countries where our infrastructure and processors operate — primarily Google Cloud data centers in the United States (us-central1). Where required by your local law, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for cross-border transfers.
9. Children
BabelPage is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or in-app) before they take effect.
